I. Objectives:

LC: Identify the similarities and differences of media literacy, information literacy, and technology literacy. (MIL11/12IMIL-IIIa-2)

At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:

  • Compare and contrast their characteristics and uses.
    Demonstrate understanding through writing and discussion activities.

IV. Procedures:

A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson:

  • 'Do you remember what literacy means?'

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson:

  • YES or NO Quick Check: I can identify a legitimate FB page of a news channel. I can recognize a reliable website for school research. I can avoid clicking suspicious links online. “Today, we’ll learn how to distinguish three digital literacies that impact your everyday decisions—media, information, and technology literacy.”

C. Presenting illustrative examples/instances of the lesson:

  • 'What is the difference between reading news and researching in Google Scholar?' Use short examples or slides to illustrate the three literacies.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1:

  • Activity: Identify one example of media, information, and technology literacy. Pair-share with seatmates.

E. Discussing new concepts and new skills #2:

  • Group poster activity: Show one real-life example of each literacy. Each group presents briefly.

F. Developing mastery (guides formative assessment):

  • Individual Task: On ¼ sheet paper, write 2 similarities and 3 differences. Use guide questions provided on the board.

G. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson:

  • Ask: 'How are these literacies interconnected?' 'What skills are needed for each?'

H. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living:

  • Ask: 'How can MIL help you in daily life?' Discuss examples like avoiding fake news or citing sources properly.

I. Evaluation of Learning:

  • Multiple choice questions on media, information, and technology literacy

J. Additional activities for application or remediation:

  • Homework: Analyze a post, website, or app used daily. Explain how the three literacies apply.
